Created approximately between 1172 and 1189 CE (under the royal patronage of King William II of Sicily). Period: High Middle Ages / Norman-Sicilian Romanesque Period (Late 12th Century).

This image captures an architectural detail of a slender column shaft featuring a dynamic zigzag (chevron) geometry inlaid with continuous micro-mosaic bands. It is crafted from a pristine white marble shaft, deeply channeled and inlaid with hand-cut glass paste, turquoise-blue stones, deep ruby-red glass, and gold-leaf mosaic tesserae, executed through master stone channel-carving, precise surface incising, and direct micro-mosaic assembly (opus tessellatum / sectile).
