Vault Mural Detail with Anthropomorphic and Foliate Motifs in the Cloister of Schleswig Cathedral
2474
Created approximately in the 14th century (circa 1300–1320 CE). Period: High to Late Gothic / Northern European Medieval Art (14th Century).
This image captures an architectural vaulting fragment featuring a polychrome ceiling mural combining scrolling vegetation with a hybrid anthropomorphic motif (a smaller winged figure or rider perched atop a larger stylized human head/profile). It is crafted from lime plaster applied over medieval brick and stone rib vaulting, painted using natural earth and mineral pigments (ochres, carbon blacks, and lime-resistant mineral colors), executed in traditional fresco-secco wall-painting techniques.
