Polychromatic Trencadís Mosaic Bell Tower Pinnacles of the Nativity Façade at the Basílica de la Sagrada Família

2048

Catalan Modernisme / Contemporary Monumental, designed c. 1892–1926, executed through 20th–21st c.

Twin bell tower pinnacles from the Nativity Façade of the Basílica de la Sagrada Família, designed by Antoni Gaudí and executed through the mid-to-late twentieth and twenty-first centuries. The twin spires taper upward into faceted geometric profiles, integrating massive openwork stone letters that spell out sacred acclamations — HOSANNA and EXCELSIS — visible from the surrounding streets. Each tower culminates in a large cross-shaped medallion framed by a radiant halo of spherical white globe nodes evoking clustered fruit or celestial spheres. The ornament deploys deep reds, warm pinks, brilliant whites, and shimmering gold leaf glass tiles. The projecting inscriptional letter blocks, mortar depth, and spherical globe halos create high relief depth and a striking chiaroscuro effect, giving the tower crowns a radiant, living presence against the open sky.
