The White Jharokha-and-Jaali Facade: La Kozy Mansion, Mumbai (Late 19th Century)
2625
Built in 1891 during the late British colonial period, commissioned by Dr. Acacio Gabriel Viegas and later featuring intricate detailing commissioned by cotton broker Mr. Baboolal Dalal through traditional Rajasthani master artisans (karigars).
Architecturally, it serves as an ornamental residential balcony and ventilation screen that fuses traditional indigenous Rajput palatial forms with Victorian-era urban mansion architecture, symbolizing the cosmopolitan wealth and cultural synthesis of late 19th-century Bombay elites.
