The Tuscan Gothic-Renaissance Ocular Window: Exterior Wall and Tracery of Florence Cathedral (14th–15th Century)

2607

Created during the Italian Gothic to Early Renaissance transition, specifically designed and executed c. 1380–1410 (as part of the construction campaign of the cathedral's lateral nave and clerestory walls under master builders of the Opera del Duomo).

Architecturally, it serves as an upper clerestory oculus window designed to allow controlled natural light into the vast nave aisles while maintaining the strict geometric harmony and decorative elegance characteristic of Florentine architectural traditions.
