The Peacock Gate and Ornate Jharokha Facade: City Palace, Jaipur (18th–19th Century)
2622
Initiated during the founding of Jaipur in the 18th century (circa 1729–1732) under Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, with extensive decorative expansions, mirror-work (The Peacock Gate / Pritam Niwas Chowk), and embellishments continuing through the 19th and early 20th centuries.
Architecturally, it serves as a royal viewing gallery (jharokha darshan) and a ceremonial courtyard facade designed to project the supreme majesty, divine kingship, and aesthetic opulence of the Kachwaha Rajput rulers.
