The Nativity within an Ornate Gilded Polyptych Frame (Emilian-Bolognese School / Trecento)

2418

Created during the Trecento (14th century) period, specifically dating to the late 14th century (circa 1370–1390).

This object is an individual narrative compartment (predella or register panel) set within an integral, carved wooden altarpiece frame. It is executed in tempera and gold leaf on a wooden panel support. The scene depicts the Nativity of Christ, featuring the Virgin Mary kneeling in adoration before the infant Jesus wrapped in swaddling clothes beneath a rustic shelter, accompanied by Joseph, the ox and ass, kneeling shepherds, and descending angels in a rocky landscape.
