The Mausoleum of Khoja Ahmed Yasawi (Timurid Masterpiece)
2644
Constructed during the early Timurid period, specifically built between 1389 and 1399 by order of the Turco-Mongol conqueror Amir Timur (Tamerlane), replacing an earlier 12th-century mausoleum.
Architecturally, it serves as a monumental Sufi shrine and memorial complex built over the tomb of the revered 12th-century Sufi mystic and poet Khoja Ahmed Yasawi, designed to function simultaneously as a political statement of Timurid imperial legitimacy, an architectural marvel of Central Asian Islam, and a major pilgrimage center.
