The Masterpiece of Romanesque Cosmatesque Tracery: The Rose Window of San Pietro at Tuscania (11th–13th Century)
2614
Created during the Romanesque period, specifically executed during the major decorative and structural facade campaign spanning c. 1093 to the early 13th century (with the central rose window and sculptural relief program finalized around c. 1206 under Lombard and local magistri comacini workshops).
Architecturally, it serves as the theological and visual focal point of the west facade, designed to flood the basilica's nave with filtered light while symbolizing the celestial wheel, the cosmos, and Christ as the Light of the World.
