The Masterpiece of Apulian Romanesque Tracery: The Rose Window of Troia Cathedral (12th–13th Century)
2612
Created during the Romanesque to early Gothic transition period, specifically spanning from the late 11th century to the early 13th century (the lower section of the facade and core elements initiated under Bishop William II from c. 1107–1120, with the upper facade and the iconic rose window finalized during subsequent campaigns up to c. 1229).
Architecturally, it serves as the crowning decorative and luminous centerpiece of the west facade, designed to illuminate the nave while functioning as a complex cosmological symbol of divine order and Christian eternity.
