The Main Building of the Philadelphia Museum of Art (American Neoclassical / Beaux-Arts Style)

2650

Designed and constructed during the early 20th century, specifically built between 1919 and 1928 under the architectural direction of Horace Trumbauer and Julian Abele, in collaboration with the firm Zantzinger, Borie and Medary.

Architecturally, it crowns the monumental temple-like structure, serving to transition the massive stone facade into the sky, seal the roof joints against weather, and emulate the colorful, polychromatic architectural decoration of ancient Greek and Hellenistic temples.
