The Glazed Tile Minarets of the Imam Reza Shrine (Safavid and Afsharid Eras)
2629
Built during the Safavid and Afsharid periods, with major expansions, gilding, and structural additions occurring under Shah Tahmasp I (16th century), Shah Abbas I (circa 1601–1602), and Nader Shah Afshar (who famously gilded the minarets in 1732–1742 AD).
Architecturally, it serves as a towering vertical focal point for the holy shrine complex, designed to project spiritual sovereignty, guide pilgrims from afar, and provide an elevated platform for the call to prayer (adhan).
