The Exquisite Arch of the Temple of Hadrian at Ephesus (138 CE)
2585
Created during the High Imperial Roman period under Emperor Hadrian, specifically dated to c. 138 CE (erected just before or around the death of Emperor Hadrian).
Architecturally, it serves as the decorative crowning arch (syma and archivolt) of the temple's portico facade, designed to celebrate the imperial cult of Hadrian. Symbolically, it projected the divine protection, prosperity, and cultural refinement of the Roman Empire in Asia Minor.
