Italy (Florence)
The Drum Oculi and Geometric Revetment Panels of Florence Cathedral (Early Renaissance)
2635
Built during the early Italian Renaissance period, specifically constructed between 1413 and 1422 under the supervision of the Opera del Duomo and master builders preceding and working alongside Filippo Brunelleschi.
Architecturally, it serves as an ornamental and structural wall bay of the drum, designed to pierce the heavy masonry with light via the oculi, ventilate the internal dome cavity, and visually unify the Gothic-to-Renaissance transition through balanced, geometric classical proportions.
