Templerhaus (Hildesheim): Oriel Window Detail with Herm Pilasters and Floral Friezes
2533
Created in 1591 during the Northern Renaissance / Late Mannerist period.
Structurally, these elements serve as the vertical mullions and horizontal frieze courses framing the multi-light window openings, distributing upper structural loads while creating an articulate grid. Symbolically, the integration of classical herms, floral ornamentation, and rich polychromy functioned as an emphatic display of the owner's civic status, economic prosperity, and cultural engagement with contemporary European design principles.
