Punic Terracotta "Dama d'Eivissa" from Puig des Molins

3116

Date Created: Circa 4th to 3rd century BCE (specifically 400–201 BCE, spanning the Late Classical to Hellenistic Punic period). Period: The Punic Period in the Western Mediterranean (coinciding with the height of Carthaginian influence in Ibiza and intensive cultural exchange with Magna Graecia).

Funerary Votive Offering (Ex-voto): Functionally, this statuette served as a sacred funerary offering deposited inside the rock-cut tombs of the Puig des Molins necropolis to accompany the deceased. Symbol of Divine Protection and Fertility: Representing the goddess Tanit or her divine attendants, the figure symbolized eternal regeneration, agricultural and human fertility, and cosmic protection in the Punic afterlife.
