Pair of Monumental Baroque Columns (Northern Italy)

2448

Created circa 1730–1750 CE, during the Late Baroque / Rococo Transition Period (18th Century).

This object consists of a pair of monumental, freestanding torsion columns (salomonic columns) complete with bases, carved capitals, and helically wrapped shafts. They are crafted from carved wood (such as pine or linden), executed through intricate hand-carving, faux-marble (scagliola-effect or painted marbleizing) in dark slate/black tones, and rich gilding (gold leaf) applied to the vine motifs and capitals.
