Maison Carrée: Frieze and Architectural Moldings
2501
Created in the Early Roman Empire period, circa 2–5 CE, under the reign of Emperor Augustus.
This image captures a detailed section of the temple's magnificent decorative frieze band, flanked by egg-and-dart, bead-and-reel, dentil, and leaf-and-dart moldings. It is carved from regional limestone, executed using precision chisel work, fine drillwork (sottosquadro) to achieve deep shadow relief, and high-relief stone carving.
