Maison Carrée: Cornice Soffit, Modillions, and Corinthian Capital Details
2500
Created in the Early Roman Empire period, circa 2–5 CE, during the reign of Emperor Augustus.
This image captures a detailed upward perspective of the temple's cornice soffit and Corinthian capital. It features alternating carved modillions (brackets) and sunken panels containing floral rosettes, bordered by egg-and-dart and dentil moldings. It is carved from regional limestone, executed using precision chisel cutting, fine drillwork (sottosquadro) for deep shadow definition, and high-relief carving.
