Maison Carrée: Cornice, Dentil Course, and Corinthian Order Details
2504
Created in the Early Roman Empire period, circa 2–5 CE, during the reign of Emperor Augustus.
This image captures an upward diagonal perspective of the temple's corner cornice, showing the sequence of ornamentation with dentils nearest the wall, alternating modillions and floral rosettes, egg-and-dart moldings, and a supporting Corinthian column. It is carved from regional limestone, executed using precision chisel cutting, fine drillwork (sottosquadro) for deep shadow contrast, and high-relief stone carving.
