Maison Carrée: Corinthian Column Capital and Coffered Ceiling Soffit

2499

Created in the Early Roman Empire period, circa 2–5 CE, during the reign of Emperor Augustus.

This image captures a detailed perspective of a fluted Corinthian column capital and the deeply recessed coffered ceiling (lacunaria) of the temple's pronaos (porch). It is carved from regional limestone, executed using precision chisel fluting, sophisticated drillwork (sottosquadro) for high-relief acanthus leaves, and geometric stone-cutting for the coffered panels.
