Iznik Tile Panel with Lozenge-Shaped Medallions (Topkapi Palace, Istanbul)
2401
Created during the Classical Ottoman Period, specifically dating to the late 16th century (circa 1575–1590).
This object is a modular decorative wall revetment panel composed of multiple square underglaze-painted ceramic tiles, commonly known as Iznik tiles. The technique features hand-painted mineral pigments—including deep cobalt blue, turquoise green, and the characteristic raised coral-red (Armenian bole)—applied over a white quartz-paste body, sealed with a clear alkaline glaze, and high-fire glazed.
