Iznik Tile Panel with Flowering Trees in an Arch (Topkapi Palace, Istanbul)
2404
Created during the Classical Ottoman Period, specifically dating to the late 16th century (circa 1575–1590).
This object is an arched, modular architectural wall panel composed of multiple square and rectangular underglaze-painted ceramic tiles (Iznik tiles). The manufacturing technique involves hand-painting mineral pigments—including rich cobalt blue, turquoise green, and the characteristic raised relief red (Armenian bole)—onto a white quartz-paste fritware body, coated with a transparent alkaline glaze, and high-fire glazed.
