Iznik Tile Panel with Cypress and Tulip Motifs (Topkapi Palace, Istanbul)
2400
Created during the Classical Ottoman Period, specifically dating to the late 16th century (circa 1575–1590).
This object is a decorative wall panel composed of multiple square and rectangular underglaze-painted ceramic tiles (commonly known as Iznik tiles). The technique involves painting mineral pigments (cobalt blue, turquoise green, and the characteristic relief-like Armenian bole red) onto a white quartz-paste body, coated with a transparent alkaline glaze, and fired at high temperatures.
