Iznik Tile Panel with Cobalt-Blue Arabesques and Geometric Border (Topkapi Palace, Istanbul)

2403

Created during the Classical Ottoman Period, specifically dating to the 16th century (circa 1550–1580).

This object is a multi-tiered architectural wall revetment panel composed of fitted, underglaze-painted ceramic tiles (Iznik tiles). The technique features fine cobalt-blue and turquoise mineral pigments hand-painted over a white quartz-rich fritware body, coated with a brilliant transparent alkaline glaze, and fired at high temperatures.
