Georgia (Akhalgori)
Golden Discus with Avian Frieze from the Akhalgori Treasure
2706
Dated to the 5th to 4th centuries BC (with the burial itself ascribed to the end of the 4th century BC), during the classical antiquity period of ancient Georgia.
Recovered from an elite aristocratic female barrow burial in Akhalgori alongside horses and attendants, this golden discus functioned as high-status ceremonial attire or a ritual garment plaque, symbolizing divine protection, cosmic order, and the exalted rank of the deceased.
