Geological Institute of Hungary: Zsolnay Tiled Turret and Folkloristic Sculptural Group
2520
Designed and constructed between 1898–1900 during the Hungarian Art Nouveau (Magyar Szecesszió) period, under the architectural direction of Ödön Lechner.
Structurally, the glazed ceramic conical turret cap sheds precipitation efficiently while the iron balcony railing provides safety barriers at the upper-floor balcony. Symbolically, the sculptural group of three figures supporting a globe directly represents the earth sciences — geology, mining, and cartography — and the institute's mission of studying and mapping Hungary's geological heritage.
