Cubic Capital with Rosette Medallion and Segmented Floral Relief
2493
Created in the Early to High Romanesque period (circa 1010–1033 CE / late 12th-century secondary integration), reflecting the Ottonian architectural campaign under Bishop Bernward of Hildesheim alongside subsequent Romanesque stonecarving developments.
This image captures a heavy cubic (block) capital featuring a flattened, cushion-like profile. The primary flat face of the block is adorned with a prominent, circular rosette medallion containing numerous radiating petals, while the lower corners display semi-circular or lunette-shaped fields filled with incised floral motifs. It is carved from fine-grained limestone or sandstone, executed using precision surface incision, low-relief carving, and block-shaping techniques.
