Date: Traditional Dogon carved granary doors of this artistic standard are typically dated from the late 18th century to the mid-20th century (circa 1750–1950 CE). Period: Traditional West African / Sahelian Tribal Art (Dogon culture).

Architectural Role: Acted as a physical security barrier and locking mechanism for domestic and communal grain storehouses, protecting vital food reserves. Symbolic, Cultural, and Religious Purpose: Served as a sacred spiritual shield and cosmic map. The carved symbols and figures represented ancestral protectors, primordial water spirits (Nommo), and creation mythologies designed to ward off malevolent forces and ensure community survival.
