Comprehensive In-Depth Stylistic and Ornamental Analysis of the Taj Mahal Marble Relief Fragment — Floral Dado Panel Detail

2590

Mughal period, 1632–1643 CE. Commissioned by Emperor Shah Jahan; construction overseen by Ustad Ahmad Lahori. The pietra dura program was likely completed by specialist inlay craftsmen (parchin kari) between approximately 1637 and 1643 CE.

This specific relief fragment — a detail panel from the dado zone — functions within the overall symbolic program of the Taj Mahal as a micro-cosmic representation of the Quranic paradise garden (Jannat), with each flower species carrying specific spiritual and allegorical meaning within Mughal courtly and Islamic mystical (Sufi) traditions.
