Functioned as an architectural light-admission and ventilation portal for ecclesiastical and residential monastic spaces, while aesthetically bridging Romanesque massiveness with Gothic verticality. Symbolically, the piercing of heavy stone walls by pointed arches and glazed openings represented the entry of divine, uncreated light (Lux Nova) into the sacred earthly realm, guiding the soul toward spiritual illumination.
