Cifrapalota (Ornate Palace): Hungarian Art Nouveau Facade with Zsolnay Ceramic Inlays
2525
Designed and constructed between 1902–1903 during the Hungarian Art Nouveau (Magyar Szecesszió) period, under the architectural direction of Géza Márkus.
Structurally, the Zsolnay ceramic tile panels and relief plaques are set into or applied over the plastered brick masonry walls. Symbolically, the name itself ('Cifrapalota' = Ornate Palace) encapsulates the building's purpose as a demonstration of the highest level of Hungarian folk-art ornamental richness applied to urban commercial architecture.
