Cifrapalota (Ornate Palace): Close-Up of Folk-Art Zsolnay Tile Panel
2526
Designed and constructed between 1902–1903 during the Hungarian Art Nouveau (Magyar Szecesszió) period, under the architectural direction of Géza Márkus.
Structurally, each faience tile panel is baked to extreme hardness and frost resistance, designed to survive the harsh Pannonian Plain climate. Symbolically, the close-up reveals the extraordinary richness of the individual decorative units: the tulips, carnations, and intertwining stems of traditional Hungarian Great Plain folk art rendered at the highest level of ceramic craft, transforming vernacular motifs into a declaration of national artistic identity.
