Canopic Jar Lid with the Portrait of Princess Meritaten (or Queen Kiya)
2745
Crafted during the Amarna Period of the late Eighteenth Dynasty (circa 1353–1336 BCE), under the reigns of Pharaoh Akhenaten and his immediate successors.
Created as a high-status funerary canopic jar stopper designed to seal and ritually protect the internal organs of a royal personage (originally associated with Queen Kiya or later adapted for Princess Meritaten), serving both a practical mummification function and an apotropaic divine guardian role.
