Ancient Mosaic Floor Fragment with Reclining Figure and Tree (Temple of Jupiter Complex, Baalbek, Lebanon)

2422

Created during the Roman Imperial period, broadly dating from the 2nd to 3rd century CE (spanning the height of Roman Heliopolis construction and imperial expansion).

This object is an ancient mosaic floor fragment executed in opus tessellatum technique. Small, precisely cut stone and colored mineral tesserae are densely set into a thick mortar bed, forming both a figurative central medallion and complex geometric-optical border frames.
